Toxicity:
Non-decolorized aloe vera leaf extract, when ingested orally, has been included in the list of "chemicals known to the state of California to cause cancer or reproductive toxicity" by the California Office of Environmental Health Hazard Assessment. This potential effect may be attributed to the presence of anthraquinones in the extract. Furthermore, since 2016, aloe vera whole leaf extract has been categorised as a possible human carcinogen (Group 2B) by the International Agency for Research on Cancer.
It's essential to note that applying aloe vera to the skin is typically safe and not associated with significant side effects. However, oral consumption of aloe vera can be potentially toxic and may lead to symptoms such as abdominal cramps and diarrhoea, which, in turn, could affect the absorption of medications. In rare cases, it may cause an allergic reaction, mainly a skin rash.
